If i have a herniated disc in my lower back, should the suspected disc be painful when i touch it?… I suspect herniated because of my sciatic nerve pain in my right leg.. and Straight leg test, i dont think its my knee cause the pain is specific to a vertebra( or spinal bone) in the lower back.

You wouldn’t be able to actually touch your herniated disc. There is way too much muscle in your lower back to feel it, and also it’s in between your vertebrae. The pain that you might feel when pressing over the area is likely from irritation or inflammation of the surrounding area…
I’d talk to a spine doc if I were you.

The anatomy of the back is very complex. The spinal bones project backward (posteriorly) and sideways (transverse), where the ligaments and muscles for the back attach. The discs are further forward so you can touch them directly.
However, when nerves are pinched or inflamed, muscles and adjoining soft tissue can be sore and tender. That’s probably what you’re feeling.
Have you seen a chiropractor? There is a method of adjustment called “The activator Method” that is low force and low pain. They use a small tool to pop the vertebrae back into alignment. There is also decompression which can help bulging or herniated discs to recover and heal.
If you’re having sciatica then you probably have misaligned veterbrae and possible bulging discs. I’d try to find a local chiro who can help you. I’ve been through all of those issues and you can heal without surgery.
I hope that helps!

The disc itself would not be painful to touch. It isn’t in any pain. All your pain is coming from the muscles around the disc that are in pain because of what happened to it. Usually this all comes down to being pinched on one side and not the other. That puts your back into pulling on one side and not the other and where, when enough pressure is exerted on the one side the other will open up slightly and help cause the disc to slip out some which is going to cause even more pains. Here is how you can release your back muscles which should help everything relax and go back to their neutral positions and the pain should also leave:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but remain there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
